Introduction: Methanol poisoning can cause a wide range of neurological manifestations, confusion, coma, and vision loss. The present study aimed to report a case of blindness caused by alcohol poisoning.
Case Report: The patient, a 19-year-old man, refereed to the emergency department of the hospital with complaints of dizziness, blurred vision, weakness, lethargy, and nausea. The patient had severe blurred vision caused by alcohol consumption (methanol) two days before referring to the hospital. The patient was transferred from the emergency room to the ICU. The results of the tests indicated severe acidosis. A central venous catheter (Shaldon) was placed in the femoral area for the patient and he was treated with oral ethanol, folic acid tablets, and dialysis.
Conclusion: Despite the diagnosis of poisoning and necessary treatment measures, the patient finally lost his eyesight completely, and due to the shock of becoming blind at a young age, he was refused to a consultant for follow up the treatment and was discharged from the hospital with his personal consent.
