Abstract: (45 Views)
Introduction: People with HIV/AIDS often experience significant physical and psychological problems that diminish their mental health and life satisfaction. This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy on quality of life, depression, and frustration tolerance among people with AIDS in Qom, Iran.
Methods: This quasi-experimental study utilized a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up design with a control group. The statistical population included all people with AIDS in Qom, Iran. A total of 30 participants who were referred to the Behavioral Diseases Center in 2024 and met the inclusion criteria were selected using convenience sampling and randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group. Data were collected using the Quality-of-Life Questionnaire (Warr and Sherburne, 1992), the Beck Depression Inventory (1978), and the Frustration Tolerance Questionnaire (Harrington, 2005). Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA via SPSS software (version 27).
Results: The results showed significant differences in quality of life, depression, and frustration tolerance scores between the experimental and control groups across the three phases (pre-test, post-test, and follow-up). Specifically, emotion-focused therapy significantly improved quality of life and frustration tolerance while reducing depression levels in the experimental group, compared to the control group (P≤0.001).
Conclusion: Emotion-focused therapy appears to be an effective intervention for enhancing the psychological well-being of individuals with AIDS. Therefore, all mental health professionals are advised to integrate emotion therapy into therapeutic protocols to improve the mental health of these population
