Abstract

Abstract Background and objectives: Quality of life can be considered as a marker of the quality of health care and is a part of the patient's treatment plan. Its measurement in type 2 diabetic patients provides useful information to health authorities. Material and Methods: This study is a descriptive- analytic cross – sectional study that has attempted to measure the quality of life in diabetic patients in Chaharmahal & Bakhteyari Province. The number of patients was 254 and they were selected randomly in two stages. Data were collected through questionnaires with acceptable validity and reliability measures. The data were analysed with software STATA 9 using independent t-test, ANOVA, Chi-square and multiple linear regression. Results: The mean total score of quality of life was 122.8 out of 184 (SD: 1.1) in this study. 27.6% of the patients had favourable quality of life, 67.3% had rather favourable and 5.1% had unfavourable quality of life. The most important factors that determine quality of life in diabetic patients include satisfaction with health insurance, a history of hospitalization due to diabetes, a history of more than 10 years of diabetes, control of hypertension, micro- and macrovascular complications of diabetes, sight dimness and sleep disorder. Conclusions: Based on an accurate recognition of quality of life and its determinants in diabetic patients, a background has been provided for policymakers, planners, researchers, physicians and nurses working in a diabetic management tearn.

Abstract

Abstract Background & Objectives: Sensory deprivation is one of the complications threatening the comatose patients. Sensory stimulation is a treatment that awakes the brain's reticular activating system, which helps brain re-organization. This study aimed to investigate the impact of familiar sensory stimulation on level of Consciousness in patients with head injury in ICU. Material & Methods: This clinical trial was conducted on 60 patients with head injury in ICUs of Mashhad Emdadi Hospital. Intervention was the presence of family members and provides sensory stimulation in first 6 days of admission. Patients consciousness checked on GCS score on the first day and sixth and findings was analyzed with the SPSS 11.5. Results: According to the non-normal distribution of the GCS, the Mann-Whitney test was used. The results of this test showed that the GCS in first day were homogeneous in two groups (P=0/402). Increase of GCS on the sixth day in the intervention group was more statistically significant than the control group (P=0/002). Conclusion: Early sensory stimulation is increase consciences in patients with brain injury. Revising in visiting policy in intensive care unit can be appropriate to provide positive effects of family presence on patient.

Abstract

Background& objectives: Accumulation of free oxygen radicals leads to the oxidative tension. This tension will be able to change the enzyme activity, gene expression, calcium release from intracellular deposits on the membrane structure, cell growth, and death. Plants are rich in the case of antioxidant compounds which will be able to  reduce the risk of some chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease and stroke by protection of cells and increasing the plasma antioxidant power. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity of methanol extract of the Eremostachys labiosiformis (Popov) Knorring plant.

Materials and Methods: Methanol extracts were obtained from E.labiosiformis plant by maceration method following the collection, drying and powdering. The antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity effect were assessed by free radical scavenging method (DPPH) and MTT (on Vero cell lines), respectively.

Results: The antioxidant capacity of E.labiosiformis methanol extract was0/392 mg/ml. Cytotoxic effect (CC50) during different times of 24, 48 and 72 hours was also 1329/16 µg/ml, 1360/25 µg/ml and 1159/71 µg/ml, respectively.

Conclusion: The comparison results of E.labiosiformis antioxidant properties with ascorbic acid showed that this plant has a good free radical scavenging activity in comparison with the other similar plants. In the case of toxicity assessment, it was shown that the methanol extract of this plant can be safe for use in therapy. However, using the other cell lines as well as in vivo studies are recommended for a definitive conclusion.

Abstract

Introduction: Spiritual intelligence is a dimension of spiritual health, which facilitates human adaptation to his/her environment. Since beliefs, culture and spiritual commitments can be associated with positive outcomes such as physical and psychological health, satisfaction with life, favorable interpersonal performance and better quality of life, the present study was conducted to determine the relationship between spiritual intelligence and quality of life of older people covered by health centers in the city of Kashmar in 2015-16.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study in which 430 eligible elderlies living in urban and rural areas of the city of Kashmar were selected through stratified random sampling. Research instruments were spiritual intelligence questionnaires of Abdullah Zadeh et al. and quality of life questionnaire LEIPAD. For data analysis, test and Spearman's correlation coefficient were used.
Results: According to the results, the average score of elderlies’ spiritual intelligence in Kashmar city (114.79 ± 6.15) was at an optimum level and the qualities of their lives (52.94 ± 6.56) were assessed as medium. In addition, there was a significant negative correlation between the mean score of spiritual intelligence level and the quality of life among elderlies in Kashmar city (P = 0.01, r = -124).
Conclusions: The present study results showed that despite the inverse and significant relationship found between the mean score of spiritual intelligence and the mean score of quality of life in elderlies of Kashmar, the results obtained showed the need for further studies in other parts of the country with different cultural, economic and social backgrounds, and with different sample sizes (smaller or larger), given the mutual effects of spiritual intelligence and quality of life of elderlies as a factor affecting positive outcomes such as physical and mental health, satisfaction with life and favorable performance among them.

Abstract

Introduction: Macrosomia is a common complication in obstetrics and gynecology and its complications usually expose mother and fetus at risk. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence rate of macrosomia and related risk factors in pregnant women in Bojnourd.
Methods: This descriptive analytic study was performed on 7908 pregnant women referred to Bentolhoda Hospital. Mothers with macrosomic infant were selected as case and the same number of women with term and normal delivery were selected as control groups. Data was analyzed by SPSS 24 software.
Results: Maternal mean age, weight gain and duration of pregnancy were significantly increased among macrosomia group. Previous history of macrosomic infant and maternal hyperglycemia was directly related to increased risk of macrosomia. We did not find correlation between macrosomia and increased risk of neonatal malformations, shoulder dystocia, clavicle fractures, brachial plexus damage and maternal complication after delivery and increased cesarean section.
Conclusions: Due to 2.41% macrosomia frequency in Bojnourd city and its significant relationship with risk factors such as maternal age, mean pregnancy weight gain and pregnancy duration, maternal diabetes and macrosomic birth history, appropriate planning for pregnancy and Entering a well-weighted pregnancy and enjoying a varied and healthy diet will help maintain and promote maternal and neonatal health in the normal weight range.
