Abstract: (43 Views)
Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus not only causes physiological complications but also leads to various psychological problems in patients. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of healthy lifestyle education combined with stress‑reduction techniques on improving anxiety, dysfunctional attitudes, and treatment adherence among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.
Methods: The study employed a quasi‑experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group and a three‑month follow‑up period. The statistical population comprised all patients diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus who were receiving treatment at hospitals and rheumatology clinics in Shiraz in 2025. Diagnosis was confirmed through clinical laboratory assessments and the judgment of a rheumatology specialist, along with an official medical record of lupus established for each patient. Using G*Power software, 40 eligible participants were purposively sampled from the target population and randomly divided into two groups: a control group (n = 20) and an experimental group (n = 20). The research instruments included the Zung Anxiety Scale, the Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale developed by Weissman and Beck, and the Madanlou Treatment Adherence Questionnaires. The experimental group received ten sessions of healthy lifestyle training combined with stress‑reduction techniques, while the control group received no intervention. Data were analyzed using repeated‑measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) with SPSS (version 26).
Results: There was a statistically significant difference (P ≤ 0.05) between participants who received the healthy lifestyle intervention combined with stress‑reduction techniques and those in the control group at both the post‑test and the three‑month follow‑up.
Conclusions: Lifestyle‑based therapeutic approaches combined with stress‑reduction techniques have a significant effect on reducing anxiety, improving dysfunctional attitudes, and enhancing treatment adherence among the participants in this study
