Abstract
Abstract Background & objectives: Dermatophytosis is the infection of skin, hair and nail that is caused by various keratinophilic dermatophytes. It is a common infection wide spreading in the world and a public problem common endemic disease in Iran. As a short study we assessed the frequency of dermatophytic cutaneus infections in west Azarbayejan, Iran. Methods & Material: A total of 246 specimens were collected from clinically suspected. All patients were referred to medical mycology lab for the laboratorial identifications. Results: Among 246 clinical samples examined, 28 positive patterns of dermatophytes were identified and five dermatophyte species including Trichophyton mentagrophytes (42.8%) Trichophyton rubrum (7.1%), Microsporum canis (32.1%), Microsporum gypseum (14.2%) and Trichophyton schoenleini (3.5%) were identified. Conclusion: Our results showed that the frequency and prevalence of dermatophytic infections have an increasing mode in Urmia, Iran.
