Introduction: Self-awareness skills' training can improve the individuals' psychological functioning, and promote a healthy life. So, the present study aimed at investigating the effect of self-awareness skill training on anger and anxiety in men diagnosed with methamphetamine dependency.
Methods: This quasi-experimental study with a pretest/posttest design and control group was conducted on 50 patients with methamphetamine dependency admitted to an addiction center and treated by the group therapy in 2017. Data were collected using the Spielberger's anxiety and anger scales. To analyze the data, paired-samples t-test and paired t test were used.
Results: The results of the present study showed that self-awareness skill training was effective in reducing the incidence of anger (P = 0.001), and anxiety disorders (P = 0.001).
Conclusions: The emotional self-awareness skill training can help control both anxiety and anger in the substance-dependent men and can be used in treatment programs of methamphetamine and other drug dependency
