Abstract Background & Objectives: Depression is one of the most common disorders in the world. The majority of depress people have problem in expression of their feelings. Psychologists believe that negative emotions and specific cognitive attitude toward their life in depress people may interfere to cause or exacerbate their depression.This study aims to evaluate the relationship between metacognitive believes and emotional schemas and depression. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive – correlation study, 120 People (60 male and 60 female) who referred to psychological services and counseling of Torbat-jam city, were selected by available the sampling method. Data collection tools included the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Katrayt Wales - Hutton (MCQ-30) Meta cognitive believes and Leahy Emotional Schema Scale (LESS). Data were analyzed by SPSS v.19.0 software and presented with Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression .The level of significance was set at P < 0.01. We used, Results and conclusions: there was a significant positive relationship between metacognition (positive beliefs about worry and cognitive self-awareness) and emotional schemas (value schema ،the duration of strong emotions, rationality - Antiemotional and the consensus schema) with depression at p ≤ 0/01,. Stepwise regression analysis showed that the weight of a cognitive (cognitive awareness) and five emotional schemas (value, blame, guilt, understandable, consensus), 71/2 % predicted the depression. conclusions: The concept of schemas plays an important role in the treatment of major depression. The importance of the social environment and secure attachment in depression,build a need to have more distinct types of schemas. Also interpersonal and developmental issues in the formation and continuation of the scheme need more attention.
