Abstract: (26 Views)
Introduction: People with panic disorder face numerous problems that cause difficulty in regulating emotions and reduce their psychological flexibility. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of paradox therapy on rumination and ego strength in patients with panic disorders.
Methods: The present study was a semi-experimental pre-test-post-test study with a control group. The statistical population of the present study included all individuals referred to the New Plan Counseling Center in Tabriz with a diagnosis of panic disorder in 2024, from which 30 participants who met the inclusion criteria were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned into two groups of 15 people (experimental group and control group). The experimental group received paradox therapy for 6 two-hour sessions. The data were collected using the ego strength psychological questionnaire and the rumination questionnaire. The SPSS-26 software was used for analysis of variance with repeated measures.
Results: The findings indicated a significant decrease in rumination scores and a significant increase in ego strength scores in the experimental group from pretest to posttest (P ≤ 0.01).
Conclusions: The results suggest that paradox therapy may be effective on rumination symptoms and ego strength in patients with panic disorders. Therefore, it is recommended that all mental health professionals, especially psychotherapists, use the paradox therapy approach in their therapeutic interventions to improve the mental health of people with panic disorder.
